About Our Team

ARUW joined the RoboMaster competition in early 2016. As a relatively young team, we are proud to be the first North American team that has competed in Shenzhen two years in a row and have placed 31st in RoboMaster 2017. Our team offers opportunities for over 80 students across majors to build skills outside of the classroom. ARUW is composed of three technical teams (further decomposed according to robot projects) and two administrative teams:

Mechanical: Responsible for the design and manufacture of the mechanical structures and components for the robots.

Electrical: Responsible for the design of circuit boards and developing the control system for the robots.

Computer Science: Responsible for developing computer vision system for the robots and game strategies.

Business: Responsible for fostering sponsor relations, item acquisition, team budget, and website management.

Logistics: Responsible for planning and managing the trip to China.

About the Competition

RoboMaster 2018 is a fully immersive real-time, first-person shooter, team-based competition that is developed and sponsored by DJI, the pioneering drone manufacturing company. As one of the fastest growing robotics competitions in the world, it combines the E-sport team dynamic with the exceptional engineering challenges of a robotics duel. Last year almost 250 universities from across the globe took on this epic challenge, and nearly 1 million people either tuned in or watched it all unfold, live in Shenzhen. The competition not only provides unparalleled entertainment to young viewers worldwide but also helps foster international relations and education for the next generation of engineers.

To participate in RoboMaster 2018, teams are required to build at least seven different robots with reliable mechanical structures as well as integrated autonomous systems and computer vision software, that can overcome tremendous engineering challenges. When it's all said and done, each robot can represent thousands of man-hours, and cost tens of thousands to manufacture. The competition takes a full year to prepare for and requires unilateral support and input from across the college campus.

Help Us Win!

We wish to raise $25,000 to be the first non-Chinese team to go to the final match of the tournament this year. With the funding, we hope to purchase better materials and equipment as well as to help cover our travel expenses. This year ARUW is working with many universities across the continent and help them start their own teams and guide them through the initial stages. ARUW is also working with DJI to start the first North American regional tournament here in Seattle. We are well on our way to that goal, and we would very much like to invite you to join the cause. As one of the very few American teams in one of the fastest growing competitions in the world, we hope you support us in pursuing in our passion in robotics, our dedication to technology, and goal of winning the competition this summer in Shenzhen, China.
